A brief excerpt from Janey’s book, Heaven Help Me Raise These Children! THE BATTLE IS THE LORD'S "So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive" (1 Samuel 30:3). 1 Samuel 30 tells the wonderful story of how David recovered his wives and little ones from the hands of the enemy. There in Ziklag, those mean old Amalekites had ambled in and done their dirty work. They captured the families of David's entire army, abducting every wife and every child. In parallel fashion, here in Everydayland, the devil is in perpetual pursuit of our own lives—and especially our children’s. He never stops trying to drag them away from God's Kingdom to bring them captive into his own. We, the parents, must therefore be vigilant, wise, and determined to keep them from him. And we must be relentless in our efforts to liberate them if he has already captured them. This Bible chapter outlines strategies teaching us how to do just that, by God’s grace. Read more about God’s strategy to release our children—and ourselves—from captivity in Chapter 18 (Reading Selection 18) of Janey’s book, Heaven Help Me Raise These Children! |
